Although officially named the recipient of the award in 2020, the delivery of her award was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Michaela Gack, Ph.D., scientific director of the Cleveland Clinic’s Florida Research and Innovation Center, received a National Institutes of Health Director’s Pioneer Award for supporting her research toward the development of broad-spectrum antiviral drugs. The Pioneer Prize, established in 2004, challenges researchers from all disciplines to pursue new directions of research and develop high-impact, breakthrough approaches in a broad field of biomedical, behavioral or social sciences.
