WAHS students recognized for excellence in vocational and technological education
CHARLESTON, WC (WCBD) – Two seniors from West Ashley High School (WAHS) have received awards from the SC Department of Education for their achievements in Career Education and Technology (CTE).
These awards are given to students who “are examples of excellence and dedication” and illustrate the benefits of CTE. Students “display the ability to balance life inside and outside the classroom with extracurricular activities and community service, while demonstrating success in study, on-time employment. partial and workplace learning experiences ”.
Dejah Parks was named the Trident Region Work-Based Learning Student of the Year (WBL). She is a student in the Nail Technology program and studied at Simply Your Spa on Ashley River Road. Helen Shepherd, who runs the program, said Parks is “the epitome of hard work and dedication”.
Reggie Miller has been named the Technology Champion for the Trident Region. He is a culinary arts student and completed his experience at Leon’s Fine Poultry & Oyster Shop on King Street. The program manager said Miller is “everything West Ashley’s culinary program represents… knowledge, skills, a strong network, passion, creativity and leadership.”
